2008 Yarrawonga Gold Cup and EC Griffith Cup

The Victorian Speed Boat Club wishes to advise that due to circumstances beyond their control they have decided to cancel the event to be run at Lake Mulwala, Yarrawonga on the 4th, 5th & 6th April 2008. The current water level at Lake Mulwala is 76.44, which is 60cm's below full supply level, which would make it to hazardous for race competitors. The local water authorities have informed us that unless they have significant rainfall in the next month the water level would not be expected to rise to a level that would allow the event to be held.

Bundaberg was the place to be as Australia's best power boat racers battled it out for the annual Bundy Thunder. In a special meet that honored the popular Geoff Tomkins, it was Victorian boat, Rival 2 that took out the most anticipated race, the inaugural Iron Nuts Shield. While there were many disappointed casualties due to mechanical problems it took nothing away from the Rival team. Hot contenders Brian McCosker from Liberty, Dean Barry in She's The Culprit, Rob Psaila in Duggan Balancing and Brett Sheppard in Unleashed were all bitterly disappointed as they could not finish the meet after having success throughout the year, and all would have been favourites due to their performances this year. The high quality 6ltr Displacement field stepped up a class this year with the boats competing such as Image, True Blue, In Excess, The Chase, Immortal, Stairway To Heaven, Alcatraz, Kick Ass just to name a few. Craig Lewis in Image had a huge weekend on the podium winning the prestigious Trojan Cup and placing second on both the Iron Nuts Shield and the Brad Pratt Memorial. The Trojan cup is a highly honored event on the Australian Power Boat Racing circuit as many of the teams competing in Bundaberg raced against the late Larry Martin in the 6ltr Class. The first West Australian team to compete in Bundaberg showed great form, the 6ltr Displacement boat True Blue driven by Paul Harvey placed second in the Trojan Cup and third in the Iron Nuts Shield. Young New South Wales driver Micheal Platts was consistent in his boat Stairway To Heaven to win the Bev Hiscox memorial for 6ltr Carbureted Displacements and placing 3rd in the Trojan Cup. First timers to Bundaberg Immortal Racing from Victoria driven by Mark Gauci finsihed in second place to challenge last years winner Alcatraz driven by Terry Smith who finished in 3rd. It was an awesome weekend of racing, with huge crowds attending, fantastic weather, and no major race incidents to report of.
